LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Breean Trapasso (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda H.S.) was named to the Academic All-District 2 First Team on Friday, while teammate Jessica Bissett (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park H.S.) earned second-team distinction.

Trapasso, who also made the all-district second team in 2002, is now eligible for the national Academic All-America team, which will be announced next month. Bucknell has had 106 Academic All-Americans since 1970, third most among all Division I institutions.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, student-athletes of at least sophomore status must maintain a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade-point average. The teams are chosen by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Bucknell's two selections met the 3.20 minimum with plenty to spare. Trapasso is a mathematics major with a 3.90 GPA, while Bissett, a junior, carries a perfect 4.0 in international relations and East Asian studies.

Trapasso is one of the Patriot League's top setters and has played a major role in Bucknell's 11-2 start in conference play. She ranks second in the league in assists with 972 (10.57 per game). Earlier this season Trapasso became only the third player in Bucknell history to record 2,000 career digs, and she will almost certainly become the first player in Bison annals to have two 1,000-assist seasons.

Off the court, Trapasso has been a Dean's List honoree in every semester at Bucknell. She is a member of the Kappa Delta Pi (education) and Pi Mu Epsilon (math) honor societies, the recipient of the Charles White Prize for excellence in athletics and academics, and a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She also serves as a math tutor for college and high school students.

Jessica Bissett has a perfect 4.0 GPA.

After being slowed by an injury early in the season, Bissett has become one of the team's most dependable performers in recent weeks. She leads the team with a .211 hitting percentage and ranks second on the squad in blocks per game at 0.64.

Bissett is a recipient of the President's Award for Academic Achievement and is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. As part of her international relations and East Asian studies curriculum, Bissett will be studying in Beijing during the spring 2004 semester. She is also a member of the Bucknell Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

The Bison volleyball team is 15-11 overall and 11-2 in Patriot League play. The team has clinched the No. 2 seed in the Patriot League Tournament and will play Lehigh in the first round on Nov. 22. Bucknell concludes its regular-season slate this Saturday at Colgate at 5 p.m.
