Pair Of Bison Named to Volleyball All-League Team
Nov. 20, 2002 LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior middle blocker, Melanie Ghiz (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and junior outside hitter, Brandi Trapasso (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) were named to the All-Patriot League volleyball team, on Wednesday. Ghiz has received first-team accolades for the first time in her career. The senior middle blocker has stepped up this season and has tallied 396 kills, out of 555 total career kills, throughout the 2002 campaign. Ghiz is atop the Bison with a .290 hitting percentage, 4.24 kills per game, and marks 0.65 service aces per game average. She is among the League leaders in all three categories. Trapasso earns All-League second-team honors for the first time in her career after receiving the Defensive Player and Rookie of the Year awards, two years ago, in 2000. The junior co-captain leads the League and is 17th in NCAA stats in digs per game with a 4.50 average. She is also ninth in the Patriot League in kills with a 3.05 mark per game. Bucknell has completed regular season play with a 15-12 overall record and 9-5 in the Patriot League. The Bison have clinched a third-seed playoff spot and will play second-seeded Lehigh on Friday, Nov. 22. The game is set for 5 p.m. in Washington, D.C. at American University. The championship match will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23, with a start time of 4:00 p.m.
