Women's Water Polo Drops First Contest of the Year

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Bucknell women's water polo team suffered its first setback of the season, falling 10-9 to George Washington at the Villanova Invitational on Saturday, February 17. The Bison defeated Villanova, 17-15, earlier in the day.

Bucknell trailed, 5-2, after the first quarter and still found themselves in the hole, 5-4, after two periods. The Orange and Blue scored four times in the third, two from senior co-captain Paige Cull (Bay City, Mich./John Glenn), while holding the Colonials to just two goals, to carry an 8-7 lead into the final quarter. It was George Washington who prevailed, however, holding BU to just one score in the quarter, while tallying three for the 10-9 win.

Cull finished the game with five goals and two steals. Sophomore goalkeeper Lindsay Chesterfield (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) ended with 11 saves and two steals.

Bucknell falls to 2-1 overall and hosts the Bucknell Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, February 24-25.
