No. 19 Bucknell Women's Water Polo Downs Villanova 18-5 in First Game at Maryland Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Ten different Bison scored goals, led by three from Meagan Gins (Albuquerque, N.M./Valley), as the No. 19 Bucknell women's water polo team opened the Maryland Invitational with an 18-5 win over Villanova Saturday afternoon. The Bison improved to 8-2 on the season and will take on Wagner at 6 p.m. Saturday evening. Gins' season-high six points led Bucknell, which jumped out to a 13-1 halftime advantage. She is now just three points and four goals shy of Meg Blitzer's career records in both categories. Freshman Flavia McBride (Irvine, Calif./University) registered two goals and three assists for a season-high five points. A total of seven Bucknell players netted at least two goals in the contest. The 18 goals for the Bison matched a season high and were one shy of the program record of 19. Bucknell recorded a season-high 22 steals with McBride leading the way with five. Valentina Rozas (Pico Rivera, Calif./El Rancho) added four, while Shana Palencia (Glendale, Calif./Hoover) and Aubrey Rowe (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) registered three apiece. Rachel McGillis (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) started in goal for the second time this season and tallied eight saves to go along with a pair of assists and one steal. Bucknell will close out the first day of competition at the Maryland Invitational at 6 p.m. against Wagner.
