Bison Women's Water Polo Extends Win Streak to Five with 12-3 Victory Over Siena

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Jennifer Swoyer (Erie, Pa./McDowell) scored three first-half goals as the Bucknell women's water polo team sped out to an 8-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 12-3 victory over Siena Saturday morning at the Bucknell Invitational at Kinney Natatorium. The Bison extended their win streak to five in a row and improved to 8-1 this season. Bucknell returns to action later Saturday afternoon when it hosts No. 16 Hartwick at 4:10 p.m. Swoyer had a hand in five consecutive goals in the first half as she scored a career-high three goals and matched her career high in points with five. Meagan Gins (Albuquerque, N.M./Valley) added three goals and one assist, while Elizabeth Jensen (San Mateo, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep) netted a pair of goals. Aubrey Rowe (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley), Bucknell's leading scorer entering the game, scored just one goal, but matched Swoyer for the team lead with two assists. Rowe did produce on the defensive end with a pair of steals. She was also 2-for-2 on sprints to raise her season total to 16-for-19. The Bison outshot the Saints 31-18 and were 3-for-7 on 6-on-5 opportunities. Mandy Bynum (San Jose, Calif./Leland) started in goal and made four saves in the first half while not allowing a goal. Katie Colgan (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) relieved her in the third quarter and did not make a save and yielded three Siena goals. Freshman Rachel McGillis (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos), who was making her first appearance of her career, stopped all three shots she faced in the fourth quarter.
After trailing by eight at halftime, Siena tallied three of the first four goals in the third quarter to close the gap to six, but could not draw any closer as Bucknell scored the last three goals of the contest.
