Feb. 25, 2012
LEWISBURG, Pa. –Taylor Barnett (Houston, Texas/Clear Lake) scored three goals and dished out two assists for a team-high five points and nine other Bison scored one goal apiece to lead the Bucknell women’s water polo team to a 12-5 victory over Siena Saturday morning at Princeton’s DeNunzio Pool in the first game of the CWPA/MAAC Crossover. The Bison have now defeated the Saints two consecutive weekends after posting a 13-7 victory over them last Saturday at the Bison Invitational.
Bucknell (4-6) led 4-2 at halftime and registered eight second-half goals for the easy win. Siena tallied one goal in each of the first three periods before scoring twice in the final frame.
Barnett took over the team lead in goals with 18 on the season thanks to her sixth multi-goal outing of the season. She has now scored at least two goals in five of the last six games.
Amanda Skonezney (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) led the Bison defense with a career-high five steals. She was also one of the nine players to find the back of the net once. Skonezney also matched Barnett and Hallie Kennan (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) for team-high honors with a pair of assists.
Bucknell converted just 2 of 6 six-on-five opportunities, but its five-on-six defense was solid, allowing Siena to score only three times in nine chances.
Rena Heim (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) made her fourth consecutive start in goal and stopped seven shots. She is up to 50 on the year and 173 in her two-year career.
The Bison will continue play at the CWPA/MAAC Crossover Saturday at 4 p.m. vs. Iona. Bucknell has won three of its last four meetings with the Gaels.
