Bucknell Women's Water Polo Remains No. 19 in National Poll, Will Host ECAC Championship this Weekend

ECAC Championship Schedule & Results LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's water polo team won all three games at the Maryland Invitational last weekend and remained No. 19 in the latest national poll, which was released Wednesday. It is the first time in program history the Bison, who own an impressive 10-2 record, have been ranked in back-to-back weeks. Top-seeded Bucknell will try to continue its four-game winning streak this weekend when it hosts the ECAC Championship at Kinney Natatorium. It is the 2008 home debut for the Bison, who were 5-1 in their home facility last spring. Bucknell's first game in the two-day event is Saturday at 9 a.m. against eighth-seeded Slippery Rock. Bucknell Women's Water Polo Notebook Bucknell Notes - Bucknell has matched the 2006 squad for the second-best start to a season in program history. Only the 2005 team that opened 11-1 was better.
- Bucknell's high-scoring offense is averaging nearly 13 goals per game. It has netted at least 10 goals in each of its 10 victories. The Bison tallied at least 10 goals 10 times all of last season. - Meagan Gins broke Bucknell's career goals and points records last weekend. The senior captain now has 201 career goals and 289 career points. Meg Blitzer had held the records in both categories since 2005. Gins is tied with Kandis Canonica for the team lead with 40 points this year. - Bucknell has posted winning streaks of six and four games this year. The longest streak in 2007 for the Bison was five consecutive wins. - Bucknell outscored its three opponents last weekend by a 45-16 margin. Among the Bison's top offensive performers last week were Gins and Aubrey Rowe. Gins totaled 10 goals and six assists, including an eight-point game against Wagner. It was her highest point total since 2006. Rowe registered eight goals and six assists, featuring a seven-point performance also against the Seahawks. - Bucknell's 18 goals last Saturday against Villanova matched a season high and was one shy of the program record. The 13-goal margin of victory was the largest for the Bison since defeating Maryland 16-3 on April 9, 2005. - Bucknell's senior class of Gins and Jennifer Swoyer has piled up a 71-39 (.645) record over the last four years. Only the classes of 2006 (76 wins) and 2007 (77 wins) won more games. - Kandis Canonica leads the team with 22 assists this season. That figure is more assists than current high-scoring veterans Gins, Rowe and Valentina Rozas had as freshmen. - Alison Carter has been Bucknell's predominant starter in goal and leads the team with a career-high 72 saves this year. She is stopping better than 54 percent of the shots she has faced this season. Rachel McGillis, who has earned three starts in the cage, has a save percentage of 57.3 percent. - Bucknell has played its best in the second and third quarters this year.
