WASHINGTON, D.C. - Meg Blitzer equaled her season high with six goals, including the game winner with just over a minute to play, to lead the Bucknell women's water polo team to a tight 9-8 victory over George Washington in its final game of the regular season Sunday morning.

The win clinched the second seed in the Southern Division Championships, scheduled for April 23-24 at Kinney Natatorium, for the Bison. Bucknell (20-8, 6-2) will attempt to defeat the third-seeded Colonials for the fourth time this season in their first game at the two-day event in two weeks.

Blitzer, who tallied seven goals in two games Saturday, added six more to her tally Sunday. The Bucknell single-game record holder with seven goals in one contest, Blitzer has netted at least six goals in a game three times in her four-year career. She now has 58 goals this season, just eight shy of tying her own single-season standard of 66. Blitzer scored the game-winning goal with just over a minute to play, and the Bison defense was able to keep George Washington scoreless during its last two possessions to claim victory.

Cody Keffer, Katie Hartigan and Elizabeth Jensen helped shoulder the offensive load for Bucknell as they each registered a single goal in helping the Bison to their 20th win of the season, the most in the seven-year history of the program.

Bucknell beat George Washington by a combined 21-13 score in the first two meetings between the teams this season. However, the Colonials jumped out to an early 3-2 first-quarter lead. That was short lived as the Bison stormed back with four goals in the second quarter to take a 6-4 lead into halftime. After playing the third quarter to a 2-2 deadlock, George Washington outscored Bucknell 2-1 in the final quarter to make the final spread just one goal.

Mandy Bynum was stellar in goal for Bucknell as she made eight saves, but recorded a season-high five steals. As a team, the Bison registered 10 pilfers on the defensive side of the pool.

Bucknell and George Washington will square off for the fourth time this season Saturday, April 23, at 11:30 a.m. That contest will be part of the Southern Division Championships at Kinney Natatorium. Fans will be able to listen to the game live on the internet at BucknellBison.com and in the Lewisburg area on 1380 WMLP. Doug Birdsong will handle play-by-play duties on the Bison Sports Network.
