LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior Meg Blitzer, who earlier this week was named the Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athlete of the Week, copped CWPA Southern Division Player of the Week plaudits Friday. She scored 13 goals and tallied two assists in the women's water polo team's three victories last weekend. In the process, Blitzer became the all-time leading scorer in team history.

Blitzer opened the three-game weekend by scoring just two goals during an 11-1 win over Salem International. That would be her lowest output in Bucknell's three games, all wins, as she scored five goals and dished out two assists during a 16-3 victory over Maryland. The Durham, N.H., native bested that with a six-goal and one-assist performance, including the game-winning score in the final minute, as the Bison defeated George Washington 9-8.

Already the Bucknell single-season record holder with 66 goals last year, Blitzer became the program's all-time leading goal scorer earlier this season when she passed Brooke Rea's total of 161. With 58 goals this season, Blitzer has extended the standard to 190. To go along with those goals, Blitzer also has 77 career assists to give her 267 points in her tenure as a Bison. That figure helped move Blitzer into first place on that list, surpassing Adrienne Schober's mark of 257 last weekend.

With 77 points this season Blitzer is closing in on her career high of 90 she set as a junior. Schober tallied 93 in 2001 and owns the Bison single-season record.

Blitzer's six-goal output against George Washington was the second time this season she has tallied six goals. That figure is tied for the second most ever at Bucknell. Blitzer holds the single-game standard by scoring seven times against Villanova last year.

Bucknell (20-8, 6-2 Southern Division) has already set a program record for most wins with its 20 this season. The Bison, who won nine consecutive games earlier this season, will be hosting the Southern Championships April 23-24 at Kinney Natatorium. Bucknell will face George Washington for the fourth time this season in the first game, which will start at 11:30 a.m. The contest will be broadcast live online at BucknellBison.com and in the Lewisburg area on 1380 WMLP.
