Bucknell's Gins, Rozas Named All-League by CWPA
April 30, 2007 LEWISBURG, Pa. - At this past weekend's Eastern Championship, a pair of Bucknell women's water polo players were honored. Junior Meagan Gins (Albuquerque, N.M./Valley) and freshman Valentina Rozas (Pico Rivera, Calif./El Rancho) were named First Team All-CWPA Southern Division, while Gins also earned Second Team All-Eastern Championship plaudits after scoring four goals in the Bison's three games at the Eastern Championship. Bucknell wrapped up its 2007 season at the Eastern Championship this past weekend with a seventh-place finish. After losing to No. 19 Michigan and Maryland on Saturday, the Bison bounced back to defeat Harvard 6-3 on Sunday. For Gins the all-league citation marks the third of her career. She was a second-team selection as a freshman, while this is her second consecutive first-team honor. Gins, who was an honorable mention All-America selection last year, has also been a member of the All-Eastern Championship for two consecutive years. Last season she earned first-team plaudits. Gins led the Bison in scoring for the second straight year as she totaled 62 goals and 23 assists for 85 points. Many of those offensive totals rank among the best single-season marks in Bucknell history. The 62 goals is fourth, just eight behind her own record of 70 set in 2006, while the 85 points is tied for sixth. Gins also holds the top spot in that category with 103 last year. Despite just completing her junior year, Gins is already on the verge of breaking the career goals and points records, both held by Meg Blitzer. She is second with 180 career goals, just 18 behind Blitzer, while Gins' points total of 249 is fourth, just 33 behind Blitzer. Additionally, Gins is among the top 10 in both assists (69) and steals (95). One of just two players to start all 32 games this season, Gins' most remarkable statistic may have been her career-high 96 ejections drawn. She had at least three ejections drawn in 16 games, and posted a career-high seven on two occasions, both against Princeton.
A prolific scorer, Rozas had 13 multiple-goal games this year, and entered the Eastern Championship having tallied at least one point in all but one game this season. She tallied a career-high four goals in back-to-back game with Maryland and California Baptist in March. Bucknell wrapped up the 2007 season with a 15-17 record against a schedule that featured a program record 11 ranked foes. The Bison also advanced to the Eastern Championship for the sixth consecutive year.
