Bucknell Women's Water Polo Announces Incoming Recruits

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell head women's water polo coach John Abdou announced Wednesday the addition of four student-athletes who will compete for the Bison next spring. The members of the Class of 2013 will look to help the Bison continue their winning trend, which has featured an average of 21 victories per season over the last five years. Three of the newcomers hail from water polo-rich California, while one (Shannon Carroll) will become the second Connecticut native on the Bucknell roster, joining rising junior Kristin Vallis. “We will miss the services of the three talented seniors who recently graduated, but our goal was to bring in a small, but strong class and we accomplished that,” said Abdou, who was named the CWPA Southern Division Coach of the Year for the second straight year in April. “I am excited about the experience these four student-athletes bring to the program. Each should make an immediate positive impact on the character, chemistry and speed on our team.” The four newcomers will help the Bison overcome the loss of all-time leading scorer Aubrey Rowe as well as classmates Rachel McGillis and Kelsey Herrmann to graduation. Bucknell was 18-17 this past spring and tied for first place in the CWPA Southern Division with Maryland. Abdou on Carroll: “I think Shannon is the best player to come out of the Northeast this year. She is a strong utility player that is very versatile. We will look for her to serve as an attacker as well as post up. Her work with the Olympic Development Program and club teams will help her make an immediate impact. We are excited to work with her this fall, as she is a good fit for our offensive schemes.” Krystle Morgan (Rowland Heights, Calif./Rosary) – Krystle Nicole Griselda Morgan … born Dec. 22, 1990 in La Habra, Calif. … daughter of Dolores Morgan … has one brother … four-year member of varsity swimming and water polo teams … First Team All-Trinity League as a senior … earned second-team honors as a junior … four-time scholar-athlete honoree … CIF Academic Honorable Mention four times … earned United State Army Reserve National Scholar-Athlete Award as a senior … helped team to CIF playoffs three times, advancing to the quarterfinals in 2009 … Junior Olympics gold medalist … four-time swimming scholar-athlete … four-time CIF Academic Honorable Mention … named Senior Swimmer of the Year in 2008-09. Abdou on Morgan: “Krystle brings a wealth of experience to the table with her club and high school background. She is a pure center that possesses plenty of offensive skills. Her quickness and aggressive style of play will make an immediate impact at the attacker position.
