Bucknell Women's Water Polo has Six Earn ACWPC All-Academic Awards

  • LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's water polo team had six student-athletes earn All-Academic Awards from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches, it was announced this week. Additionally, the Bison ranked 21st among water polo teams in cumulative team grade-point average with a combined 3.03.

    Student-athletes were recognized in three levels: 3.20 to 3.40 GPA (Excellent), 3.41 to 3.70 GPA (Superior) and 3.71 to 4.0 (Outstanding). Bucknell had one player recognized in the Outstanding category, three landed on the Superior list and two more were cited with positions on the Excellent ledger.

    The team's leading goal scorer, sophomore Hallie Kennan (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto), was the lone Bison in the Outstanding category as she owns a 3.77 cumulative GPA, including a solid 3.75 this past semester.

    In the pool, Bucknell went 17-10 in 2010, won its first-ever Southern Championships title and placed fifth at the Eastern Championship. It was the program's fifth above-.500 finish in the last six years.

    Becca Shopiro (Superior Recognition) - 24 games played, 8 steals, 4 ejections drawn in 2010
    Shannon Carroll (Excellent Recognition) - 3 goals, 7 assists, 8 steals in 2010
    Valentina Rozas (Excellent Recognition) - Four-time all-conference selection
