NORTHVILLE, Mich. - Bucknell cross country head coach Kevin Donner had a pleasant homecoming in a return to his alma mater, Detroit Mercy, as the Bison men's cross country team captured first and the women's team second at the 22nda Annual Running Fit-Detroit Invitational in Northville, Mich. Donner, who served as the first women's cross country head coach at Detroit Mercy as well, founded this event in 1987. This is the first title for Bucknell's men's cross country team at the meet, having ran the race three previous times.

Andrew Huebner (Hampton Falls, N.H./Governor Dummer Acad.) led the Bison in the four-mile men's meet, finishing fifth overall with a time of 20 minutes, 29 seconds. Clint Orloski (9th, 20:42) (Butler, Pa./Slippery Rock), Kevin McGoldrick (15th, 20:50) (West Chester, Pa./Henderson), Conor McNamara (17th, 20:53) (Baldwin, N.Y./Chaminade) and Donald Sanner (18th, 20:54) (Meyersdale, Pa./Meyersdale) rounded out the top-five scorers for Bucknell.

"The men ran a solid team race," Donner said. "Although they looked tired at the end, I was really happy with how hard they battled to win. It is a very hilly course."

Bucknell's team score was a 56, narrowly defeating Eastern Michigan (66), Oakland University (67) and Wayne State (78), the next three top teams.

In the 5,000-meter women's event, the Bison scored 47, second to Michigan's 27. Findlay finished third (99), Wayne State placed fourth (127) and Oakland University (129) rounded out the top five.

For the second meet in a row, Bucknell's top runner was Caitlin Cavanaugh (Danville, Pa./Danville Area), who finished in sixth place, with a time of 18:15. Classmates Allison Donaghy (7th, 18:16) (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) and Stephanie Fulmer (10th, 18:32) (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) placed second and third for the Orange and Blue.

Sophomores Alexa Griffiths (11th, 18:33) (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua) and Sarah Moniz (14th, 18:48) (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet Regional), senior Nicole Falcaro (15th, 18:49) (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) and sophomore Alaina Chodoff (16th, 18:53) (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) also scored for the Bison. Full results of the race will be posted when made available.

"The women's team ran extremely well to bust up a nationally-ranked Michigan squad," Donner said. "Our very young team continues to run well, and these results make for an exciting future."

The Bison return to action on Saturday, Sept. 20, competing with split squads in the Buffalo Stampede in Buffalo N.Y., and the Dickinson Long-Short Course Invitational in Carlisle, Pa.
