NORTHVILLE, Mich. - The Bucknell men's and women's cross country teams made their first road trip of the season a productive one as each finished in first place among collegiate teams at Saturday afternoon's Detroit Titan Cross Country Invitational held at Cass-Benton Park. Sophomore Leanna Nastase, who finished third overall, was the first Bison woman to cross the finish line while senior Dan Lounsbury topped the men's squad.

The women, led by Nastase's time of 18 minutes, 55 seconds, saw four runners place in the top 10 to claim the team crown. The Bison totaled 37 points while Wayne State claimed second with 45. No other contingents in the 10-team field scored less than 100 points.

Nastase was joined in the scoring column by classmate Jennifer Stevens (19:04), freshman Erin Crammer Hart (19:16) and sophomore Lauren Bricker (19:23) who placed sixth, seventh and ninth among collegiate competitors, respectively. Junior Julie Jakakoski's 12th-place showing (19:29) rounded out the five scoring runners for the Bison.

Even though they did not figure in the scoring, junior Kayla Halloran and senior Jennifer Marsh had solid outings Saturday. They crossed the line directly behind Jakakoski in 13th- and 14th-place, respectively. In total, Bucknell saw its runners take half of the first 14 positions in the standings of the 5,000-meter race.

Second-place Wayne State tallied three top-15 runners, including the two fastest runners in the race, first-place Melissa Monclon and runner-up Jenni Culbertson. Monclon broke the tape in 18:33.

On the men's side, the Bison finished second overall, but topped the collegiate field with 50 points. Front Line Racing took the overall team title with 47 points. Wayne State was next in line behind Bucknell with 67 points.

Lounsbury led the Bison with a fifth-place showing as he completed the four-mile course in 20:52. Senior Travis Rivers (20:59) and sophomore Matt Forys (21:06) joined Lounsbury with top-10 showings. Rivers claimed eighth while Forys crossed the line 10th.

Front Line Racing's Matt Edwards paced the field of 93 runners with a time of 20:23. His teammate, Paul Audemberge, finished just five seconds back in second place. Despite the one-two finish, no team surpassed Bucknell's tally of 15 runners among the first 30 finishers.

Both Bison cross country squads will be back in action in two weeks at the Iona Meet of Champions.
