BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Sarah Moniz (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet Regional), Stephanie Fulmer (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) and Alysha Hooper (Meaford, Ontario/St. Mary’s) maintained their spots at the front of the Bison pack as the Bucknell women’s cross country team placed 14th in a tough field of 41 teams at the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa., on Friday. Moniz claimed a top-50 finish for the Bison, crossing the line in 48th overall with a six-kilometer time of 21 minutes, 28 seconds. After finishing second to Fulmer in each of the season’s first two meets, Moniz made a move to claim the top spot for Bucknell on Lehigh’s home course. The senior was also the fourth finisher among Patriot League teams, trailing a pair of runners from Colgate and a third from Lehigh. Despite seeing her two-race winning streak come to an end, Fulmer posted a solid time of 21:39 for 59th place overall on a muddy course. Hooper was third on the team in 95th place and with a time of 22:05. Also scoring for the Bison were Alaina Chodoff (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) and Kelly Grosskurth (Huntington Station, N.Y./Half Hallow Hills East). Kara Weichler (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) led the Bison in the open race. The junior finished 20th overall with a 6K time of 22:58. Leah Goeke (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) and Emily Liggett (Grosse Point, Mich./The Lawrenceville School (N.J.)) were close behind in 27th and 30th place, respectively. Emily Infield of Georgetown took the individual title in the Gold Race, finishing in 20:04. The juniors finish helped the Hoyas, which are ranked sixth nationally, to the team title with 34 points as well. Bucknell ended the day with 451 points as a squad, giving it a top-15 finish at the Paul Short Invitational for the third consecutive year. Bucknell will race again on Oct. 16 when it heads to Terre Haute, Ind., for Pre-Nationals. The meet, hosted by Indiana State, will begin at 11 a.m. TOP BISON FINISHERS – GOLD RACE TOP BISON FINISHERS – OPEN RACE
