Buckenll Women's Cross Country Team Places Fifth at 2006 Mid-Atlantic Regional
Nov. 11, 2006
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Bucknell women's cross country team tallied its second straight fifth-place finish out of 28 teams at the 2006 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional, which took place on the campus of Lock Haven University. The Bison were led by senior Leanna Nastase (Beaverdale, Pa./Forest Hills) who crossed the line with a time of 21 minutes, which was good for ninth place overall in the meet. Bucknell scored a total of 180 points. Princeton (56), Georgetown (77), La Salle (87), and West Virginia (140) finished in front of the Orange and Blue in team scoring. Villanova (180) Penn (197), Penn State (198), Maryland (212) and Delaware (317) rounded out the top 10. Nastase could clinch a spot in the NCAA National Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., as an at-large bid in the individual competition. She can also clinch a spot in the championships if La Salle picks up an at-large bid in the team competition. If she makes the cut, the senior will become the fourth runner in Bucknell history to compete in the championships, and the first since Theresa Dennis in 2001. Junior Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) posted a 27th-place finish for the Orange and Blue with a time of 21:27 improving on her 74th-place finish in last year's meet. Seven seconds later, senior Jenny Stevens (Laceyville, Pa./Wyalusing Valley) crossed the plane in 30th place with a time of 21:35. Sophomores Nicole Falcaro (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) and Gillian Nordquist (Clarkstown, Mich./Clarkstown) rounded out the Bison top five with 55th and 59th place finishes. Falcaro posted a time of 22:05, while Nordquist improved on her time last year by notching a time of 22:12.
"I was very happy with our women's result," said head coach Kevin Donner. "Finishing tied for fifth with Villanova is a great honor for our program. Leanna ran super, but we are going to have to wait until Monday to see if she gets in to the NCAA Championships." On Nov. 18, the Bucknell women's cross country team will travel to Bronx, N.Y., to compete in the ECAC Championships for its final meet of the 2006 campaign. |
