LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell junior Theresa Dennis has received the Subway Athlete of the Month Award for the month of December in cross country.

The award was announced at the monthly Bucknell Women's Sports Luncheon, held Monday, Dec. 3. Sponsored by Lewisburg Subway, the luncheon recognizes one outstanding student-athlete from each Bucknell women's sport in season at that time. The other winners for the month of December, as selected by their respective coaches, were junior Molly Creamer in basketball and senior Abby Weaver in swimming & diving.

Dennis performed extremely well at the NCAA Championship on Nov. 19, when she turned in the highest finish at NCAA's in Bucknell women's cross country history. Dennis placed 73rd out of 249 runners, scaling the 6,000 meter course in 21:53. She qualified for national competition by placing 10th at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional on Nov. 10, earning an automatic berth into the NCAA's.

Dennis' finish at nationals was 70 places better than her 1999 showing, in which she placed 143rd at Indiana University. Dennis helped Bucknell earn an at-large bid into the NCAA's that season.

Although Bucknell's cross country season has concluded, the Bison indoor track & field team will compete in its second home meet of the year this weekend when it hosts the Blue and Orange Open this Saturday.
