Dec. 11, 2001

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell senior cross country runner Becki Marshall has been named as the 2001 Patriot League Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the league office announced this afternoon.

Marshall, a civil engineering major who carries a 3.75 GPA, picked up her third consecutive Patriot League Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. She joins former Bison Julie Sweitzer, who won the award from 1996-98, as the only female cross country athlete to win scholar-athlete accolades three times.

On the course, Marshall won her third straight individual title at the Patriot League Championship this season to become just the second female in the 12-year history of the league to accomplish the feat. Marshall's victory led the Bison to their fourth straight Patriot League championship. She also crossed the finish line first at the Bucknell Gulden Duals and the Lock Haven Invitational, and she was a three-time ECAC Runner of the Week.

A Patriot League scholar-athlete nominee must have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. The winners are selected in a vote of the league's sports information directors.
