Bucknell Baseball Drops Close Game to Iowa, 3-0

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Bucknell University baseball team kept things close, but Iowa managed to plate the go-ahead run in the fourth inning, adding two more insurance runs in the sixth to take a 3-0 win over the Bison on Sunday morning in the Orange and Blue's finale at the Swig & Swine Classic.
The Bison managed another strong pitching performance after an impressive showing from Will Greer yesterday, this time courtesy of senior Austin Odell. Odell finished his 2021 spring strong, and continued that momentum by pitching five innings, scattering six hits and allowing just one earned run to a power-five opponent.
The two teams remained scoreless through the first three innings, with Iowa making the breakthrough in a solid pitching duel between Odell and Iowa's Marcus Morgan.
The Hawkeyes threatened to do even further damage in the fourth, loading the bases with no outs on a walk and back-to-back singles. However, Odell settled in, retiring three of the next four batters and limiting the damage to one run on an RBI single by Brendan Sher.
Iowa added two more runs in the sixth, capitalizing on an error by the Bison to score two unearned runs on a groundout and a sac fly. First-year Ben Magovern made his collegiate debut to start the sixth and managed an effective outing, allowing just one hit through three innings of relief work. Fellow first-year Tyler O'Neill also made his debut for the Orange and Blue, pitching a clean ninth inning.
However, the Bison bats were limited to just three hits throughout the game courtesy of Jacob Corson, Chris Cannizzaro, and Jacob Terwilliger in dropping the 3-0 decision, with the Bison leaving seven runners on base.
Bucknell returns to action next weekend for a three-game series at Radford beginning on
