
Bison Drop Doubleheader to Boston

LEWISBURG, Pa.- The Bucknell Bison softball team (10-24, 2-9 PL) dropped a doubleheader to Boston University (35-7, 8-0 PL) 5-1 and 3-0. The Bison could not generate any runs against the stout Terrier pitching staff.
Game One Recap: Boston 5, Bucknell 1
Savannah Jones started in the circle for the Bison.
Jones yielded two hits in the first inning, but her careful pitching prevented any runs.
Bucknell had a chance to take the lead in the bottom of the second inning when Chase Knapp singled up the middle, and Noelle Gardon walked. But the Boston second baseman collected Ava Aguilar's sharp grounder for the final out.
The third inning proved decisive in the game's outcome. Jones quickly obtained the first two outs. Haley Speicher dived for a ball, but it fell in for a double. A walk followed. Boston hit a single, and an error by the right fielder allowed a second runner to score. Another double made it 3-0. Olivia Marinelli replaced Jones. Two singles commenced, which padded the lead to 4-0. A walk loaded the bases, but Marinelli escaped the jam with a pop-up.
Bucknell had two hits in the bottom of the third inning. Annabella Hawkins and MaKenzie Hilling singled, but a fielder's choice and a grounder ended the threat.
Mea Consentino entered the circle in the top of the fifth inning for the Bison.
The Bison tallied a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Speicher led off with a single and reached second safety on an error. Two grounders followed, and the second one by Jones scored Speicher to cut the deficit to 4-1 Boston.
Boston added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning with a home run for a 5-1 lead.
Zoie Smith singled in the bottom of the seventh, but the Bison could do nothing else, and Boston grabbed the win.
Game Two Recap: Boston 3, Bucknell 0
Kaiya Burton started in the circle for the Bison.
Boston scored away in the first inning. An error by Noelle Gardon placed a runner on, and a grounder advanced her to second. A dying quail fell into center field to score the Terrier for a 1-0 lead.
The Bison managed one hit, a single by Smith, through four innings.
Madison Roukey entered the circle in the top of the fifth inning. The leadoff hitter smoked a triple into right-center field, and she scored on an RBI grounder. Another triple followed down the right field line, and a sacrifice fly scored her for a 3-0 lead. Roukey stabilized and prevented no further incursions of the home plate.
Kailyn Lorberter singled in the bottom of the seventh inning, but no other runners reached, and Boston completed the doubleheader victory.
